FAQs

How long does a groom take?
This depends on several factors including your dog’s coat type and condition, breed and style required, and your dog’s temperament and age. We will discuss all this during your first appointment as your dog’s welfare is our priority and we want to ensure they have an enjoyable experience.
What shampoos do you use?
We only use top quality professional shampoos, the majority of which are derived from natural ingredients. We have several different types of shampoo and will choose the most suitable for your dog’s coat and skin type however you are always welcome to bring your own shampoo or conditioner.
When should my puppy have their first groom?
As with everything new to them, the younger a puppy is introduced to new experiences the more confident they become. We therefore recommend introducing your puppy to the salon about two weeks after their vaccinations have been completed. Our puppy groom will introduce your puppy to the grooming experience in a relaxed and fun way with plenty of cuddles to ensure future visits are stress free.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
We require at least 24 hours’ notice of any cancellation to allow us time to fill your appointment. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment time or do not show up, a £15 cancellation fee will be payable. If two cancellation fees have been charged, a 50% deposit will be taken when booking future appointments.
What if I’m late picking up my dog?
The Doghouse will give you a collection time and will also call you around 15 minutes before your dog is ready for collection. For every 30 minutes you are late, you will incur a £5 day care fee. If you fail to pick up by business closing time of 5.00 pm, extra charges will apply (£10 per 15minutes) to cover the extra staff costs of remaining open.
What will happen if my dog is found to have fleas?
It is your duty to make sure your dog is free of parasites before entering the salon. If fleas are apparent when you drop off your dog, we will reschedule your appointment in order to avoid infecting the salon and other dogs. If your dog is found to be carrying fleas during the groom, you will have to pay an additional fee of £15 which covers the extra time spent bathing your dog to remove fleas, the use of flea defence shampoo and extra clean up time including the application of flea removal products in the salon.
What if my dog is matted?
Some coats need regular brushing or mats will form which can cause your dog great discomfort. We groom humanely at The Doghouse and have specialist equipment we can use to de-mat a coat. However we will abide by the Animal Welfare Act and if we do not feel that it is possible to remove mats without causing your dog unnecessary suffering, it may be necessary to clip or shave your dog’s coat. We will always discuss this with you before proceeding and will give you advice on how to avoid your dog becoming matted again.
It is the owner’s duty of care towards their pet to maintain the coat between professional grooms. The removal of heavily matted coats, by tools or clipping, increases the risk of nicks, cuts or abrasions due to warts, moles or skin folds trapped in the mats. If this happens, it will be brought to your attention, and we are not responsible for any vet bills.
